Words of the Day

  • Abdomen: part of the embryo’s body located between the throat and the pelvis.
  • Bacteria: microscopic, single-celled organisms.
  • Digits: division of limbs that appear on the wings and feet during development.
  • Mortality: the death of the embryo. This can occur anytime throughout development.
  • Sanitation: maintaining a clean environment through the cleansing of equipment and the use of proper hand-washing.
  • Proventriculus: the glandular portion of the stomach of birds, in which food is partially digested before passing to the ventriculus or gizzard.
  • Gizzard: the muscular enlargement of the alimentary canal of birds; it usually has thick muscular walls and a tough horny lining for churning and grinding food.
