Audrey B. Johnson
4-H has never had a better "mother hen" than Audrey B. Johnson. She was loved by 4-H members in her club. They knew she expected the very best of them. Her strong discipline and high expectations were not always what her "kids" wanted as teenagers, but when they had children of their own they realized "Miss Audrey" wanted them to be successful in life.
As a 4-H leader and later as a founding Collier County 4-H Foundation board member and Collier County Fair manager in the 1980s and 1990s, Johnson was quick to remind everyone what should be done for the young people, not for financial gain.
She was one of the first volunteer 4-H leaders in the 1960s. "4-H gave me the opportunity to teach my son and many youth in Immokalee important skills and values. There was little for kids to do outside of school and we made a big difference. My 4-H'ers have all turned out real well," Johnson said.
As a homemaker and highly visible volunteer, Johnson has had a great impact on the 4-H program. She is an excellent role model for youth and parents who come into contact with her. Thanks to her an entire generation of youth have benefited from 4-H club participation and educational programs.
