Larry and Susan Reese were nominated by Dr. Larry Arrington.
It is appropriate to consider them as a couple because they have worked as a team to steadfastly support Florida 4-H.
Susan grew up in Marion County where she participated in 4-H. She has worked with the Florida House of Representatives for many years and currently serves as Senior Staff Director for the Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Committee. As Senior Staff Director, Susan manages all committee meetings and legislative issues. Susan has recognized the need to market the 4-H program and has constantly sought new opportunities for visibility. She has been key in providing 4-H youth with the opportunity to appear before this and other legislative committees.
Larry began his career as a vocational agriculture teacher in 1969 in Alachua County. After 8 years he joined the Florida Department of Education where he served as Region 2 Director for agriculture and Natural Resources Education and State Program Consultant for the FFA organization. He also worked with the Division of Marketing and Information within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Larry and Susan are currently completing their second 3 year terms on the Florida 4-H Foundation Board of Directors. As 4-H Foundation Board members, they have been extremely active in fundraising initiatives to support 4-H programs. Each year, they are key players in organizing and conducting the 4-H Reception & Auction in Tallahassee. Susan has been instrumental in recruiting participation in the auction by legislators, bringing increase attention to the needs of the Florida 4-H Program. Larry has developed the idea of involving famed Florida artist, Robert Butler, in the auction. For several years, Mr. Butler has painted a picture at the event for auction. This would not have happened without Larry’s leadership. Larry was also instrumental in starting the LifeSmarts youth program in Florida.
Larry and Susan have spent their entire careers supporting agricultural youth organizations in Florida. They have worked tirelessly on behalf of 4-H in Florida.
