Our staff are accustomed to working with news media of all sizes and types--whether you represent a hometown weekly newspaper, an urban daily newspaper, a radio station or a major television broadcast network. The Florida 4-H Youth Development Program strives to reply to media inquiries in a timely manner. Please state your deadline and publication when contacting us. We also try to encourage good media relations in training programs with county 4-H agents, 4-H volunteers and youth, so if you have suggestions, please let us know.

Information We Routinely Provide at a State Level in Response to Media Inquiries

Background - in response to questions about what the H's stand for, emblem use, the 4-H pledge, the 4-H motto and creed4-H history in Florida, the 4-H youth development movement, etc.

 Photographs - from state 4-H events for publication by professional news media. We can provide traditional prints or electronic files. An online archive of stock photos is available through the IFAS Communications news and photo website. In additon, Florida 4-H photo galleries are also online.

 Program Info & Comments - about state-level activities like Florida 4-H Congress, Florida 4-H Legislature, the 4-H camping program, state major programs, district level programs, county level programs, special events, 4-H environmental education centers, etc.

 Public Service Announcements - Radio scripts available on our website. Television PSAs are also available. We have a limited stock of broadcast quality television PSAs and also slides for movie theater use.

 Referrals to County 4-H Contacts, local contacts & Youth - for reporters trying to find the local tie-in or interview youth impacted by 4-H. A list of fairs is also available from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services if you are searching for information specific to fair programs. 

 Statistics - numbers of youth involved in 4-H and 4-H project areas in Florida.

 University of Florida Youth Development Experts - University of Florida faculty and staff with expertise in a field of youth development who are prepared to answer questions from the media and provide resources for them. We have specialists with expertise in youth development specific to animal science, 4-H club development, volunteer service, service learning, poultry science, dairy science, beekeeping, entomology, energy education, communications, public speaking, horticulture, gardening, plant science and much more.
