Health Rocks! (Group Projects)
In the 4-H Health Rocks! Project, you will learn:
- to build life skills which lead to healthy lifestyle choices with special emphasis on youth smoking and tobacco use prevention;
- to understand influences and health consequences of tobacco, drug, and alcohol use to make healthy choices;
- to develop critical thinking, decision-making, communication, stress management, and goal setting skills;
- to engage in youth and adult partnerships to develop and implement community strategies that promotes healthy lifestyle choices; and
- to build positive, enduring relationships with youth involved as full partners through widely varying "communities of interest" to address youth risk behaviors.
HEALTH ROCKS! Project Materials
(For Youth Ages 8-13)
Health Rocks!® is curricula for a healthy living program aimed at 8 to 14 year olds. The main goal of Health Rocks! is to bring youth, families and communities together to reduce tobacco, alcohol and drug use by youth. Special emphasis is placed on tobacco use prevention.
To help youth develop the internal strength to resist risky behavior, the following life skills will be emphasized:
- critical thinking,
- decision-making,
- communication,
- managing feelings,
- stress management and
- goal setting
Health Rocks! also provides accurate health information regarding consequences of youth tobacco, alcohol, and drug usage. The curriculum is designed for teen/adult facilitation, with teaching tips and key health messages within the hand-on activities.

Designed for Juniors, ages 8-10, with 25 activities use
hands-on experience to facilitate youth learning. 196 pages.
Designed for Intermediates, ages 11-13, with 25 activities use hands-on experience to facilitate youth learning. 196 pages.
Seniors, ages 14-18, are encouraged to participate as facilitators within a Health Rocks Youth-Adult Partnership.
