Rabbit Project

In the 4-H Rabbit projects, you will learn:

  • how to identify breeds and select quality rabbits;
  • best practices for animal care and management;
  • safe and ethical practices for animal welfare;
  • fiitting and showing skills;
  • how to promote the rabbit industry and its products; and
  • skills such as decision-making, getting along with others, self-responsibility, planning and organizing, and improving your knowledge of general science and technology.

These two series offer you the opportunity to learn rabbit management skills, rabbit production, health care, rabbit selection, showmanship, record keeping, rabbit judging, rabbit genetics, how to design a rabbitry and so much more.

RABBIT Level 1

  • What's Hoppening explores breeds, handling and showing rabbits, identifying rabbit parts and equipment, recognizing a healthy rabbit, reading a pedigree and kindling a litter. Available through National 4-H Council.
  • Rabbits, Rabbits, Rabbits teaches members the proper ways to feed, manage and show rabbits. This manual is designed to help members complete the accompanying Rabbits, Rabbits, Rabbits: Record Book. In EDIS this publication is DLN 4H 043.

RABBIT Level 2

  • Making Tracks teaches how to recognize body types, judge and show rabbits, tattoo a rabbit, keep records, identify diseases, administer medication, record growth rates and market products. Available through National 4-H Council.

Rabbit Learning Lab Kit - Ohio State University
This kit includes units on anatomy, breeds, rabbitry management, conformation, handling & restraint, identification systems, health & sanitation, disqualifications & elimination and reproduction & genetics. These popular kits provide the basis for interactive learning experiences. Kit components include posters, labels, statements, demonstration items, and charts. All posters, charts, prints and situation/task statements are laminated for increased durability with answer keys on the reverse side. Kit includes Velcro to adhere to identification tags, and zipper pouches for tag storage. Each kit is packaged in a durable canvas carrying case for easy use, storage and transportation. Item 4045K.

Rabbit Learning Lab CD-ROM - Ohio State University
Based on the learning lab kit, this CD-ROM will provide you with interactive quiz exercises for study of: anatomy (external features), breed identification, rabbitry management, conformation (structural correctness), handling & restraint, identification systems, health & sanitation, disqualifications & elimination and reproduction & genetics. Rabbit Pattern
 
This training aid supports the " Skills for Life" Series and will teach youth how to make a model rabbit that can be used to teach such skills as handling, triming nails, checking for disqualifications and many more.  4-H members can make their realistic model rabbit with the provided pattern.
