Screening - Overall Extension Faculty Responsibilities

The actual process of the volunteer screening process, may be conducted by:

  • The 4-H agent
  • Subject matter agents
  • A Master recruiter/trainer volunteers
  • A volunteer screening coordinator
  • An Extension program assistant

The County Extension Director is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring that all agents who are involving volunteers in work with youth are following the Application and Screening Process.
  • Providing a locked filing cabinet to secure confidential information.
  • Advising the overall Advisory Committee and appropriate program committee of volunteer screening and related policies, as soon as possible

EXTENSION FACULTY OR STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing training on the application and screening process with volunteers and other Extension staff.
  • Making the final decision about accepting a volunteer prospect into the program.

Any Florida Extension staff member who works with youth through volunteers is responsible to:

  • Recruit, screen and select volunteers, using all necessary steps.
  • Process all same type of volunteer applicants through the same procedures.
  • Make the final decision about accepting a prospective volunteer into the program.
  • Provide educational materials to volunteers for whom they are responsible.
  • Application and other information in applicant’s file is stored in a locked file cabinet.
