Club Organizational Leader

Purpose

Provide organizational leadership for a 4-H club. Coordinate club activities and programs, give guidance and direction, and serve as the 4-H Office contact person.

Length of Appointment

Sept. 1 - Aug. 31; renewable upon agreement of leader and 4-H Agent

Responsibilities

  • Enroll former and new 4-H club members.
  • Organize election, installation and training of club officers.
  • Arrange for dates, place, time and notification of meetings and club activities.
  • Work with club officers to plan agendas and teach them to carry out their duties.
  • Make sure meetings include all elements of a good opening, flag pledges, business, fun, educational and social activities.
  • Maintain communication with club families.
  • Provide leadership for the planning, carrying out and evaluation of the club’s annual program plan.
  • Distribute project educational materials received from 4-H Office to the members.
  • Attend leader training meetings, a minimum of one per year.
  • Involve teens and other adults and parents in leadership roles in the club.
  • Conduct club activities and events with risk management plans for each.
  • Complete screening procedures for all volunteer roles in the club who will have direct contact with youth, and processing volunteer enrollments.
  • Orient inform club volunteers and parents about behavior expectations in working with youth.
  • Insure club abides by affirmative action policy. Carry out All Reasonable Efforts if required by the 4-H Office
  • Uphold and keep current on 4-H policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular contact with County 4-H Agent. Submit required reports in a timely manner.
  • Promote 4-H and recruit youth ages 5 - 18 regardless or race, color, sex, religion, handicap or national origin.

Qualifications

  • Belief in the importance of youth development and the need to provide young people with out of school learning opportunities. A belief in the value of the 4-H Program.
  • Willing to work as a team member.
  • Able to communicate with both youth and adults.
  • Ability to plan and conduct programs using resources from the Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Florida.

Time Required

12 - 15 hours monthly

Success Criteria

The goals of the club as established in the annual club plan are met. Members and leaders are informed of club and county meetings and activities. Club meetings involve members in leadership roles. Management tasks are carried out. Club leadership team performs effectively.
