School Enrichment Leader / Teacher

Purpose

Teach and/or coordinate a 4-H project (learning experiences structured around a special interest) in a county school.

Length of Appointment

Varies with the project and as agreed upon with the County 4-H Agent.

Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teach by using the “Learn By Doing” hands on approach. Utilize 4-H school enrichment curriculum. A minimum of 6 hours for each separate group you work with.
  • Assist members with exhibits and demonstrations.
  • Attend county project leader training programs, a minimum of one per year.
  • Be sensitive to risks and use risk management strategies related to project work.
  • Become familiar with member and leader project books.
  • Maintain sensitivity to the individual differences of school 4-H members such as differences in interests, abilities, personal needs, cultural heritage and family support.
  • Submit required records in a timely manner. Follow 4-H policies and procedures.

Coordinating

  • Contact schools who are enrolled in the project.
  • Distribute program materials and orient teachers to their use.
  • Obtain enrollment forms from the classroom teachers.
  • Conduct a pre and post test of participating school 4-H members.
  • Serve as a liaison between schools and the County 4-H Office.
  • Maintain contact with the classroom teachers.

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable about project and willing to share that knowledge and talent with 4-H members.
  • Ability to plan and conduct a project activity using resources of the Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Florida.
  • Ability to communicate with youth. Understanding of the developmental characteristics of youth.
  • A belief in the value of the 4-H Program.
