State 4-H Council Fundraisers

Each year, the State 4-H Council Ways and Means Committee selects several fundraisers. The money raised is used to pay a portion of the registration costs for each participant at each Executive Board, to support Council activities, and to support implementation of the State Council Project.

Change Wars

dimesThis year, Change Wars is going to be revised as a State Fundraiser. As before, each county and district will bring as much money as it has collected to State Events. A formula will be used to make the amount of money brought in by each District relative to the 4-H population of that district. If District 1 has $300, they could "lose" Change Wars to District 2 with $50 if District 1 has 10 times as many people as District 2. The district which brings in the most "relative" money will win Change Wars. The winning district will receive 10% of all the money raised by Change Wars for their local 4-H programs.

Spirit Stick

The relative amount of money brought in by each district will also play a very small part in the calculation of the spirit stick winner. However, the Spirit Stick winner will not have necessarily brought in the most "relative" money. For example, District 1 won the Spirit Stick, but District 2 won Change Wars by bringing in the most amount of "relative" money. All but an extremely small portion of the Spirit Stick is independent of Change Wars.

Ideas and Suggestions for Change Wars:

  • Asking mall’s permission to collect change from their fountains
  • Designing your own competition among counties and clubs
  • Using your own exceptional fundraisers such as a car wash, bake sale, or candy sale

The money raised from Change Wars will provide funding for Executive Boards, and LAW Weekend. The approximate cost to the State Council of each person who attends Executive Boards is $80. This means the State Council has to pay almost $20 ($80 − $60) out of its budget for each person who attends Executive Board. Change Wars will help to alleviate this cost. Also, part of the money raised will be available as State Project Grants for counties. Counties in need of funding for a State Project Activity can apply for a grant.
