President

Jared Padgett

PresidentHello Florida 4-Hers,

My name is Jared Padgett,  I am 17 years old, and I would like to introduce myself as your 2010-2011 Florida 4-H State Council President. I am from Sarasota County and I am entering my 10th and final year in the Florida 4-H Program. I am very involved in my County 4-H Program where I am the President of the Sarasota County  4-H Council. 4-H is a major part of my life and I will be sad when I leave, but with your other 7 State Council Officers I plan on making this the best year Florida 4-H has ever seen!
My main goal as President is to work with the Communication and Council Support Committee to build up participation at all Florida 4-H State Events. We can do this by utilizing our new Florida 4-H InFOURmant News Program, and with the 13 video cameras each district will receive. The new district video cameras will allow each district to create district blogs where information and promotion can be found.
We focus a lot on our Senior 4-H members, but we can not forget about our Juniors and Intermediates, the future of the Florida 4-H Program. Intermediate State and 4-H Day at the Capitol are the first glances these youth get at a state event. Because of this we need to make sure the events are educational and fun so younger members are encouraged to participate in more 4-H events in the future.
4-H programs across the State have faced budget cuts, and we are now in hard economic times. I plan on working closely with your State Council Treasurer and corporate sponsors to help keep cost low for Florida 4-H members and their families. We will continue all of our older fundraisers, but we plan on bringing a few more in to help raise some more money. Don’t forget we still need your help with the state wide change wars fundraisers as one of our main fundraising raising projects.
As we continue into the 2010-2011 Florida 4-H year, I hope you are all excited for what the year holds in store for you. If you have any questions in the future, fell free to contact me at jpcountryboy@verizon.net. I hope all of you will continue to “Make the Best Better” in your club, your community, your country and your world. I look forward to seeing all of you at upcoming 4-H events.

Joel Weaver

TreasurerHey Florida 4-H,

I’m Joel Weaver and I’m the 2010-2011 Florida 4-H State Council Treasurer. I’m also this year’s Ways and Means Committee Chair. I’m from Duval County, been in 4-H for 13 years, and am a graduating senior this year. I have three years of treasurer experience and have worked closely with the young kids in my county to create new leaders and young adults. I am very interested in becoming a police officer after graduation. I am very musically inclined and can play seven instruments. This upcoming year is going to be a great one and I’m really excited to meet you all.
A few of my goals this year are to increase funds by getting corporate sponsors, selling Florida 4-H car magnets, and organizing regional bike-a-thons all across the state.  The bike-a-thons will help greatly with encouraging fitness in youth across the state of Florida.
I’m very excited to work with you all and hope we can work hard to increase finances and “make the best better.”

Reporter

Elizabeth Evans

ReporterHey fellow 4-Hers!
My name is Elizabeth Evans and I am excited to serve as your 2010-2011 State Council Reporter! I come from Walton County: a small (but growing) part of the even smaller District 2.  I am 15 years old and attend public school. I am a part of my school’s Academic and Tennis Teams and have been in 4-H for 6 years. I absolutely love science and plan to work with alternative resources as a Biological Engineer after my graduation.
This year I will be serving as your Communication and Council Support chair.   4-H was fortunate enough to receive a grant to purchase 13 video cameras from Best Buy to split amongst the districts. In committee we will be utilizing fun activities to train members to use the cameras. My goals for CCS committee this year are to implement new technology and encourage inter-district communication through social-networking and communication sites. In addition, we will continue to work with the other committees to develop and assist with promotional flyers and ads. If you’re in my committee, you have a lot of fun, hard work ahead of you!
If you ever need to reach me, feel free to send me an email and elizabethevans.wc4h@gmail.com. I’m looking forward to working with all of you in the coming year!

Parliamentarian

Rachel WiseParliamentarian

Hey Florida 4-H’ers! My name is Rachel Wise and this year I have the pleasure of serving as the 2010-2011 Florida 4-H State Council Parliamentarian. I am sixteen years old years and a junior at Zephyrhills High School and Pasco Hernando Community College. This is my twelfth year in Pasco County 4-H. My main 4-H projects include Citizenship, Communication Arts, Horse, Leadership, Media Arts, Plant Connections, and Public Speaking. I have competed at the Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-Up in two categories including Horse Public Speaking and in November 2010 Individual Horse Demonstration. I am very actively involved in my county, district, and state. I am currently serving as the District IX Vice President. Last year on the 2009-2010 Executive Board, I was a member of the Legislature Planning Committee and the Leadership Adventure Weekend (LAW) Planning Committee. I also was the chair of the Intermediate State Planning Committee.
This year I have the pleasure of serving as the 2010-2011 Florida 4-H Legislature Planning Committee Chair. This will be my third year attending Legislature and I am ecstatic about working to plan this event as well as serving as your Lieutenant Governor. The Legislature event is very dear to my heart, because it was the first state event of my senior 4-H’er career and since that first Leg two years ago; my blood has turned completely green.  Some of my main goals for this year’s Legislature are to increase the student participation to over 200 participants, develop the subject areas of our legislation, instigate more corporate sponsorships, work closely with the Treasurer Joel Weaver and Ways & Means Committee to get the flowers that are sold donated, and get many experienced speakers and legislative officials to attend the event. I will also work to establish more active roles and activities for the first year Legislature attendees. Through these sponsorships, I plan on keeping the cost of the event low. The event will be on June 20th-24th, 2011 this year.
In addition to chairing the Legislature committee, I will also be vice-chair the Constitution committee with the Vice President Rebekah Diaz. We will be working together to increase participation at the event to at least 700 participants and hone the learning experience for all attendees. Both 4-H Day at the Capitol and Legislature give 4-H’ers a unique, hands-on opportunity to learn about their government in the true spirit of 4-H, “Learn by Doing.”
I am extremely excited about working with my fellow 4-H’ers this year as serving on your 2010-2011 State Council. We have an incredible chance to make an impact on the Florida 4-H Program this year and in the spirit of 4-H to ‘Make the Best Better.’

Sincerely,
Rachel Wise
2010-2011 Florida 4-H State Council Parliamentarian

Sergeant-at-Arms

Tineke Swart

Sergent At ArmsHi! I’m Tineke from Suwannee County and I’m very excited to be your State Council Sergeant-at-Arms. This is my senior year and I’ve loved every moment of my   4-H career. I am Suwanee’s County Council President and District IV President. Over the past 13 years I have participated in leadership activities, public speaking experiences, and many other projects that have given me the skills and abilities to be on State Council. Outside of 4-H, I am a homeschool student, recently graduated with my AA degree, have played the piano since I was 8 years old, and have been active in my church youth group.
As the chair of the Congress Committee, I can’t wait to get started on planning my favorite event. I have outstanding committee members this year and I’m sure they will do a great job. My goals are to increase participation to over 500 4-Hers, have specific leadership roles for the committee members at the event, bring back the multi-state community service day, and strengthen our youth-adult partnership with emphasis on utilizing and developing youth leaders.
I’m very excited about this upcoming year and hope to see you all at Congress on July 25th-29th, 2011.
